Panama Jazz Festival

Life on the road in Panama.  Eniro 2010, I had the privilege to work as a recording engineer for Danilo Perez -[Wayne Shorter Quartet] and Rob Griffin.  I worked all over the city with mics and portable recording equipment in charge of recording and archiving the Panama Jazz Festival. I worked closely with jazz greats John Patitucci, Joe Lovano, Ellis Marsalis, Jamey Haddad, Liz Wright, and Terri Lyne Carrington.

I also spent some time in the sacred dense jungle on the border of Panama and Colombia, known as The Darien Gap.

I was shown generous hospitality by the Kuna Yala indigenous people, and the Earth Train team, committed to the conservation of this beautiful place.  [Earth Train Brochure pdf].  Here, I stayed in  thatch-roofed, open-aired houses set up for travelers, scientists, musicians, and other visitors.  Earth Train was dedicated to re-foresting much of the land that had been decimated by cattle farmers.  We had a kitchen, lights, and satellite internet -- all powered by a small diversion of the river and a 4" paddle wheel.  This next video is of my friend Juanito hanging out, playing some guitar, as little Adriano illustrates La Guerra Grande
